“We recognize that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both the home and school. We know a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education.”

School-wide expectations
Four words every child at P.S. 175 learns
“At P.S. 175 we have four school-wide behavioral expectations.” Staff teach what those expectations look like in the hallways, cafeteria, bathroom, playground, classroom, bus, before school, after school, and at assemblies.
R.O.A.R.
- Responsibility The R of R.O.A.R.
- On Task The O of R.O.A.R.
- Attitude The A of R.O.A.R.
- Respect The second R of R.O.A.R.
“Students who are ‘caught’ following the behavioral expectations are reinforced with ‘Paw Points’ tickets. These tickets are then used to purchase items or privileges.” The goal, in the school’s words, is “a school environment that is safe, fun, free from distraction, and helps all children reach their maximum learning potential.”
Quoted from the school’s Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) page. Similar to the NYC Code of Student Conduct, these rules define the school’s expectations for behavior.
The two matrices
The school publishes the full expectations for students and for parents as documents any family can open.
